Registration issues to keep in mind
Overload: All classes EXCEPT applied lessons and ensembles cannot total more than 17 credits in one semester. If you go over the college will send a bill home for additional tuition. Class piano and class voice count toward this 17 maximum load. Audited classes also count toward this maximum load.
On the other hand, EVERYTHING counts toward the 12 credit minimum load required for full-time status.
You MUST register for class piano and class voice until you complete the proficiency. Even if you believe you will pass it at the end of this semester, you still register for it. Once you pass the proficiency, immediately submit a drop form to the registrar’s office (see the music office). Select the appropriate level of class piano based on your current status. You must pass each level with a minimum of C- to move on. MSC 513 is the highest level you need to achieve, but again with a min grade of C-.
Make sure you indicate the proper applied lesson section (e.g. 530.27). The .27 designates a guitar lesson. If you put the wrong number you just might end up taking kazoo lessons with Dr. Mecham.
Register for the applied MSC 530 instead of 540 unless you have approval from your private instructor. The 530 lesson is standard and refers to a half-hour lesson per week.
You may not audit an applied lesson. Secondary lessons may be taken Pass/Fail with permission of the instructor, but still for credit.
You must stay in the same sections of music theory, aural skills, and music history–do not switch unless you have permission from God.
MRT majors must take Pre-Calculus AND an approved GE math course. If you can complete Calculus instead, this will count for both courses.
If you happen to get an unsatisfactory in recital attendance one semester, you must start the count over and attend 14 events the following semester. Start early in the semester.
Make sure everything on my registration lists (spring semester freshmen, fall semester sophomores, etc) is on your registration.
Make sure you select at least one or two alternates for GE classes since these can fill up before you get registered. This is especially true for English 112 sections.
